A message from Michael J. Stamos, MD, Dean, UC Irvine School of Medicine

Dear colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that Nitin Bhatia, MD, has agreed to serve as interim chair for the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery upon the recent retirement of Steven Ross, MD.

Dr. Bhatia is the chief of the orthopedic spine service and associate professor of clinical orthopaedics at UC Irvine and the department’s residency program director. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and presented his award winning research to national and international audiences. Trained in both orthopaedic and neurosurgical techniques, Dr. Bhatia co-founded the UC Irvine Multidisciplinary Spine Program in 2004, which combines experts in multiple medical and surgical fields to provide unparalleled care for our patients.

Dr. Bhatia received his medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, where he was the recipient of numerous research and academic awards. Following his general surgical internship and orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of California, Los Angeles, he completed a spinal surgery fellowship at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital, after which he completed a second spinal surgery fellowship at Miami Children’s Hospital.
