Spine Surgery

Dr. Sam Bederman, is a Fellowship-trained orthopaedic spine surgeon specializing in complex deformity reconstruction and degenerative disorders. He is the Director of Orthopaedic Inpatient Care at UC Irvine Medical Center.

Spine Surgery

Dr. Nitin Bhatia, a Board-Certified and Fellowship-trained spine surgeon, serves as Chief of the Spinal Surgery service and co-Director of the Multidisciplinary Spine Program at UC Irvine.

Research - Skeletal Muscle Adaptation

Dr. Vicent Caiozzo’s current research interests are focused on 3 key aspects of skeletal muscle: i) the mechanistic role of contractile and regulatory proteins in muscle mechanics; ii) the mechanistic basis of muscle plasticity; and iii) the application of the first two pursuits to clinically relevant pathologies.

Post-Trauma Reconstruction/Ilizarov Surgery

Dr. Stuart Green is an orthopaedic surgeon whose subspecialty interest deals with post-trauma limb reconstruction, including non-unions, malunions, shortening and post-trauma infections of bones and joints.

Shoulder, Elbow & Hand Surgery

Dr. Ranjan Gupta’s practice is limited to care of the shoulder, elbow, and hand. He has a particular interest in arthritis and minimally invasive shoulder surgery. Other areas of focus include treatment of fractures, degenerative conditions, compressive neuropathies, distal radius malunions, and brachial plexus injuries.

Hand Surgery & Reconstructive Microsurgery

Dr. Neil Jones has unparalleled experience in reconstruction of children's hand deformities with microsurgical Toe-to-Hand Transfers and complex Microsurgical Reconstruction of the forearm, wrist, and hand.

General Orthopaedics & Spine Surgery

Dr. Douglas Kiester does major spinal reconstruction including spinal stenosis, scoliosis, tumors, complex revision surgery, and trauma. He is also an expert in microsurgery.

Research Biomechanics

Dr. Thay Lee’s main research area is in joint biomechanics. The main focus of Dr. Lee’s research is in the biomechanics of the shoulder and the knee. Current investigations include: 1) Shoulder injury and surgical reconstruction; 2) Rotator cuff tear and repair; 3) Knee injuries and surgical reconstruction; 4) Patellofemoral joint; 5) Total knee arthroplasty, 6) Spine.

Hand & Wrist

Dr. Gregory Rafijah specializes in the medical and surgical care of the hand, wrist and elbow. Dr. Rafijah takes a special interest in traumatic injuries of the upper extremity, distal radius fractures, elbow instability and stiffness, and thumb arthritis.

Spine Surgery

Dr. Charles Rosen has been in practice for 22 years and is an expert in the diagnosis of spinal problems. His specialty in spinal surgery is in patients with spinal degeneration, suffering from herniated discs, spinal stenosis, instability and all the other consequences of this in the neck and lumbar spine.

Foot & Ankle

Dr. Steven Ross specializes in the medical and surgical care of orthopaedic foot and ankle problems. His practice covers all aspects of foot and ankle orthopaedics from routine screening of patients with foot pain and deformity to complex reconstruction of those patients with rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, or traumatic injuries.

Hip and Knee

Dr. Ran Schwarzkopf specializes in hip and knee joint replacement, unicompartmental knee replacement, hip resurfacing, patient specific knee implants, complex revision hip and knee surgery, and hip fractures.


Dr. Scolaro is a fellowship trained orthopaedic traumatologist. He specializes in the treatment of acute fractures as well as nonunions and malunions. Other areas of interest are fractures of the pelvis and acetabulum, periprosthetic fractures and complex peri-articular fractures.


Dr. Martin Tynan specializes in skeletal trauma, non-unions, mal-unions, and periprosthetic fractures.


Dr. Zamorano specializes in acute fracture care. His special interest is in pelvic and acetabular fracture reconstruction. He also has special training in minimally invasive fracture management.
